happy new year + book journal

Happy New Year!  Where does the time go? I have a lot of projects that are completed or in the works, yet they don't seem to make it onto my blog.

I am an avid reader and I like to keep track of the books I have read. I have scraps of paper, computer printouts, lists here and there all just waiting for the perfect book journal to record them in.

Please tell me I am not alone....

I have a project in my mind and if I can't create it as perfectly as it is in my head, the project goes unfinished?

Prime example.... I have created and ripped apart numerous handmade journals because they just weren't what I had pictured in my head or I was afraid that some sort of creative police would show up at my door and shame me and my book journal.

These tend to be my hangups...I want my books to be listed chronological but also by author. Finally, I decided on this method...I will record them chronologically in a cute journal
(has to be cute) by month and year and then in my computer I will continue to update my books in a list that can be sorted by author.

So after literally years of consideration, where does one start to record books read? Again, trying to get over the fact that there is no book journal police.

Alas, here is my project. It's kind of funny because after Y E A R S of thinking about this, it took me all of 3 minutes to slap myself silly and sit down and put some stickers on a notebook.

Cute Notebook from Target + stickers from my stash + washi tape =

I love how it turned out and we'll see if this method works for the long term. I decided to use the washi tape on the inside to separate years. I am also recording my books by month.  If you cared to look at the books I've read in the last few months, you'll notice I'm on the Angie Almafi Series by Joanne Pence. Can't read the series fast enough!!

Do you record your books and if so, how? Can you make a book recommendation?

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. KJ you are so funny. No you are not alone and I record my books read in an Excel spreadsheet by book number, author, series title if any, and if I have it or not and if I have read it or not. I also keep track of other books by the same author if I like them and then when I find them somewhere I record that I have them. (Just a check mark if I have or read them). I think I tried the written way once but too bulky as I go so back to the spreadsheet.

  2. I agree with you Kelly I have a kindle and so I need to know what I read or didn't. I have a little note book I keep in my purse and it lists the authors and books. Another thing I do is when I am reading a series of books on the kindle I write on a sticky note the names of the books in order and put behind the kindle (which is in a cover) so when the book is read I can mark it and see what the name of the next book is. right now I am reading the Karen manning book dream fever series. I like them.

  3. Oh my goodness, I thought it was just me! I've tried to start an inspiration journal several times, a place where I can keep clippings, sketches, and ideas, and I always abandon it when it doesn't turn out exactly like I'd envisioned. Your notebook is simply adorable with the washi tape! Thanks for the inspiration!
