25 things about me

Some of my favorite bloggers are playing along with a 25 things linky party at Perfectly Imperfect and I decided to do the same. It was easier to come up with 25 things than I thought it would be.

Here are 25 things about me.
1.  I love to read and I really don't understand people who don't like to read. I especially love historical fiction. I keep track of the books I've read in a notebook.
2. I absolutely cannot believe that I turn 40 this year. I don't have a problem with my age, i just can't believe it. But not as much as my parents can't believe it.
3. Nobody believes me when I tell them my age. Thankfully, they think I look younger than I really am.  Makes me laugh every time. I especially love it when people who I know are much younger than me say things like " well, they're our age " when telling a story. It really makes me laugh. I hope I can pull this off for another few years.
4. And if I had a nickel for every time I was told that I have really pretty eyes, I could retire at 40.
5. I love to garden and figure out what I'm doing wrong/right.
6. We have 3 raised garden beds. You can see them here. We'd like to double them and grow enough for canning to get us through the winter  months.
7. I have an 8 year old shih-tzu who is so spoiled and loved. I always say that I want to come back in another life as my dog.
8. I love rainy weather.
9. I also love campfires in the backyard.
10. I toured San Francisco and Napa/Sonoma Valley by myself for 5 days while my sister attended a trade show for work. I loved every minute of it and hope to get back with my husband.
11. I toured NYC all by myself while my husband attended a trade show. I loved every minute of it.
12. I am not embarrassed to take the double decker bus tours while visiting a new city.
13. My husband and I swam with dolphins on our honeymoon in the Bahamas.
14. My husband and I missed the cruise ship that was to take us to the Bahamas for our honeymoon because our disgusting hotel didn't have an alarm clock and they never placed the wake up call. Long story but it all worked out.
15. We got married 4 days after 9/11.
16. We have kept track of every cribbage game that we've played and my husband is winning by a landslide. We've played just shy of 500 games.
17. In high school I met Pat Petersen from Knotts Landing and thought it was the coolest thing ever.
18. My parents took me and my sister to our first concert- John Cougar Mellancamp. I was in the 8th grade.
19. The second concert I went to was Michael Jackson- my parents took us to that one and we had 4th row tickets. And they let me go two nights in a row. To this day, it was the best concert I've ever been to.
20. When we were in Vegas years ago, I forced my husband to approach a person he thought was Rollie Fingers. Turns out it was him. The handle-bar mustache and the World Series ring gave it way. He was nice enough to let us take a quick photo with him. Reason # 598 that I think my husband should listen to me. I'm usually right.
21. That same trip to Vegas, I called home to tell my parents we won $250 playing craps at the Monte Carlo. We thought we were high rollers the rest of the trip. We stayed at the nastiest time share on the strip which has since been remodeled. We saw it 2 years ago while on a business trip- yes, we were on the double decker bus, which we'd never done in Las Vegas before.
22. That trip to Vegas two years ago was a much different experience when we stayed at The Wynn while I was there on business and my husband got to enjoy the city by himself.
23. I am frugal and proud of it.
24. We cancelled cable and stream TV on a ROKU. See #23. It's so awesome and I have discovered so many fun, new shows. We are blown away at the amount of content. It's like a whole new world out there in TV land.
25. I wonder if anybody read down this far.

  1. I read your whole list! Sounds like you are like me--love to travel and often have travel "adventures" (read as mishaps)! I traveled for my last job and always had weird things happen to me. My coworkers never wanted to travel with me!

  2. I've never heard of ROKU. Hubby is addicted to mainstream tv, we could never get rid of our cable.

  3. I love your list. Learned a lot about you when reading between the lines: you have a wonderful husband, you are adventurous to travel on your own, you are resourceful to find ways to be frugal. Above all, piques my interest to meet you and put a voice with the words!

Please, forgive my not good English, but I think, that you can understand me. Two things from the list are more exciting for me - fabulous New York and Michael Jackson - heaven musician RIP.
I'm 40 too, but only on paper. In my head and my heart I'm 10 years old.
Let the peace be with you!

    2. Kelly Jo I read it all! regarding your looks - I bet they last at least 10 more years - one of the biggest things you need to remember when talking to people you don't know is to not date yourself by mentioning things too far back in the past! Sounds like life is good! Thanks for sharing your 25 things!
