Kim totally rocked the challenge last week- here is her card and here is a link to her blog! Thanks for playing Kim!
color chef challenge #4
My card:

Hello! I decided to use the color combination guide for inspiration for the color challenge this week.
My card was super duper simple and it reminds me of a paint chip! I cut each strip to be 1 1/4 wide. The layer with the happy birthday sentiment is mounted for height.
My card recipe:
stamps- gracious greetings- CTMH
paper- bubblegum, baby pink, watermelon, white daisy and black- all CTMH
ink- black-CTMH
other- 3M foam mounting tape
Upload by Sunday at 10am (CST) using Mr. Linky or at SPC using the code KJ4 if you are going to post your card on splitcoaststampers.com If you have questions about the rules, please refer to this post. **Remember you can use any brand ink colors (I happen to be using CTMH).
Can't wait to see what you create!!

kristina's 50th color challenge

I have to say, this color combo was really fun and easy to work with. This card was pretty simply stamped. The cupcakes are all mounted on top of the oval layers which are also mounted.
Card Recipe:
stamps- Studio G Cupcake
ink- holiday red and breeze-CTMH
other- oval nestabilities, 3M foam mounting tape, cuttlebug, cuttlebug dots folder
Labels:
Cuttlebug,
nestabilities,
Studio G
basic grey challenge #32
Lot's of layers for this card. The stripes in the DP make it hard to see that there really are three strips of paper, as the sketch called for. They are there, promise. The only thing I don't like about this card is the white scalloped layer that goes across the middle. I think I should have made it narrower or something. To jazz it up a bit, I added some dots in the scalloped shapes with a black marker. Everything else about the card I really like.
Card Recipe:
stamps- Alfresco, For Every Occasion-CTMH
other- EK Success Scallop Square Punches & Corner Rounder used to scallop edges, buttons from Walmart, Fiber- EK Success Adornements
Paper Craft Planet Sketch
The Sketch
My card:
I found a sketch to play along with over at Paper Craft Planet. I admit, I don't know much about this site but since I last visited, I think they've really beefed up the content, challenges, etc. and I am going to put it on my list of stamping sites to frequent (as if I need one more of those).
I had just a surge of creative juice this morning and when I saw the sketch, I immediately saw this border punch as the "ribbon" in the sketch. Obviously, I varied it a bit but I just had to go with what was coming out on the paper.
I mentioned in this post that I got some new goodies yesterday at Micchaels. I've been admiring the Cuttlebug Fancy Corners at both Hobby Lobby and Micahels. They happened to be 1/2 off so I thought that was the stamping force that be telling me that I was meant to have it....Anyhow, I decided to trim just the image out and use it as the focal center for this card. I also took some markers and colored over the embossed areas so that it mathed the paper. Then I mounted it.
Don't you just love that border punch??
Card Recipe:
paper- white daisy and buttercup- from my stash, the blue/lilac is from SEI
stamps- For Every Occasion- CTMH
ink- lilac mist- CTMH
other- cuttlebug Fancy Corners, Cuttlebug, 3M foam mounting tape, markers

Hope your Saturday is going great! Despite the gloomy weather, I am getting a ton of stuff accompished today in addition to taking advantage of a creative streak! Gotta take advantage of that when you can!

Aspiration Thank You
I am sending a thank you to some friends we stayed with a few weeks back. This is the card I came up with...Pretty simply stamped. Turns out the card also fits a challenge over at caardvarks called Trees a Crowd
I used my Heidi Swapp Edge Distressor for the twilight layer of stock. I intentionally ripped a few places and tried to distress those sections as well. I stamped the branch in a three different positions and then stamped the flowers appropriately. I tried something new and used the small flower inside of the larger flower.
And, viola!
Card Recipe:
paper- cream is from my stash, Twilight- CTMH
stamps- aspiration and say it in style- both CTMH
ink- chocolate, sweet leaf and topiary- CTMH
other- Heidi Swapp Edge Distressor

My card:
For this weeks color challenge, I used the color generator and it picked a combo that I happen to love!!
I'll be the first to admit that I don't love the other two stamps that are included in the Intrinsic Background set, including the one that I used for my card, but I thought that it went really well with the cuppy cake theme for todays card because it looks like cupcake sprinkles.
(For the record, I really only LOVE the lined background and bamboo sets from Intrinsic Backgrounds)
I digress.... I used Mary's challenge for the card inspiration today.
Also, I am going to post the randomly drawn winner of the color challenge on Sunday night. With summer approaching, I tend to not be around Saturday's as I originally intended.

a different kind of card
Card Sketch:
My card:
I love the challenge of finding a color combo that I want to use, but not having the paper to complete the colors....I did not have the ocean or orange paper, so I used ink to accomplish the combo.
I started by stamping the intrinsic background on to the card base in orange ink. Then I trimmed a black layer of stock and then on top of that I layered a white piece of stock with the intrinsic background stamped in ocean and then I inked the edges with the same color ink and a sponge.
Finished off the card by stamping the focal image in the center of the diagonal piece of stock and then stamped two more images that fall off the edge of this piece of paper. I inked the edges of this piece of stock with orange ink and a sponge. I mounted this piece onto a piece of black stock and that is popped using foam tape. Lastly, I used some awesome rhinestone gems and that's that.
Card Recipe:
stamps- Alfresco, Intrinsic Backgrounds- CTMH
ink- orange, ocean, white daisy and black- CTMH
other- self-adhesive rhinestones-Kaiserscrapbook 3M foam tape

sweet Sunday Sketch #14
Sketch:
My card
Although Karen's sketch looks like it is a square card, I adapted her sketch for a standard size card.
I love the wavy dotted punch and I used it several times on this card. The first time I punched my edges, I had the paper cut to the wrong size and I decided to use it anyway, so they became a frame, of sorts, for the flower image.
For the flower image, it's stamped on a separate piece of stock and then mounted with foam tape. But, before mounting, I ladened the flower with mini adhesive pearls and finished it off with a pearl brad.
For the Happy Happy Happy sentiment, I only inked the happy part of the happy birthday stamp for the outside, and then stamped birthday on the inside. Thought about putting pearls in between each happy, but thought that might be over-kill.
Hope your weekend was great! We got a ton of cleaning and organizing done yesterday- that is the best feeling!

masculine birthday card
To make the scallop frame, I made it with one pass through the cuttlebug to cut and another to emboss. Next time, I'll take a picture and show you how I did it. I put the round nestie inside of the scalloped nestie and cut them so that the inner circle creates a window. Then I ran them both through again to emboss and that was that.
Thirdly (is that a word?) I ran a plain, white circle through to stamp the bamboo image on. Then, I mounted the scalloped frame on top.
It's a beautiful day today. I'm off to go rake the yard.
Recipe:

paper- white daisy, garden green and sunflower- CTMH
ink- sunflower and garden green- CTMH

The Color Chef Challenge Inspiration #2: A pillow from Pier 1
The Color Chef Challenge:
My card:
And let me tell you, I struggled to get this card made. I had about 3 other cards made before I finally ended up with this. I just wasn't able to make it work the way I wanted to. I started out using Mary's sketch challenge and since I didn't have any tulip paper, this was hard for me.
But, I am often out of the paper that I want to use, so I try to make it work with the ink if possible.
For this card, the spot on background stamp that runs through the middle of the card was stamped on a separate piece of paper and then mounted onto the white stock.
The flower layers are mounted with foam tape on top of the card front. And after all that, I smudged the ink next to the flower. But that is what makes it handmade, right?
P. S.
I was so excited to have so many people play along last week- thank you so much!

two birds. one stone.
Kristina's Color Inspiration:
Taylor's Card Sketch
My card:
This color challenge seemed challenging at first until I figured out an easy way to naturally incorporate all the colors.
The black layer under the very top white layer with the flowers is mounted onto the card base. Lot's of layers for this card. I also got to use that funky, black ribbon I got at a local scrapbook haunt that has since closed. It's fun and funky and i think it worked here.
Recipe:
paper- white daisy and black- CTMH
stamps-treasure life and intrinsic backgrounds- CTMH
other- basic grey glazed brads, paper flowers- CTMH, ric rac and black ribbon from my stash, 3m foam mounting tape
We're off to spend the weekend with some friends and we're bringing this guy:
to play with our friends toddler who has recently found a love for puppies! Jack and Elsie will be BFF's all weekend, that I'm sure of. Have a wonderful Easter weekend!

another sketch to help with the mojo
The Sketch:

My Card:

I find that it helps to find a sketch to get the creative juices flowing. Mary has started a sketch challenge and I got in on this weeks sketch with this card.
Pretty simple. Just a few paper layers and some ribbon. I like grey and orange together. And lately, I've liked adding white to two colors.
Recipe:
stamps- With Love- CTMH
paper- white daisy, grey wool and grey flannel
other- ribbon from the stash

where'd it go?
The Sketch:
My card:
My mojo that is. I've been in such a slump. Then......today I found this site with some really fun sketch challenges and it knocked on my mojo door....It provided me a simple sketch and I used my color combo that I posted here for some continued inspiration.
For my card, I trimmed a white layer of stock, stamped it with the intrinsic background stamp and then inked the edges with a sponge in sweet leaf which was the same color I stamped the image in. Then I added a piece of stock that I trimmed with my border punch. Took that same stock and repeated the background stamp and again inked the edges in the sweet leaf ink. Finished it off by mounting the final image. I also layered that by stamping the same image on a separate piece of paper. I used stickles to finish it. Forgot how much I love the stickles.
Recipe:
paper- alfresco, intrinsic backgrounds- CTMH
paper- white daisy- CTMH, green- DCWV
other- sponge, stickles, 3m foam mounting tape
